In collaboration with Cinéma Galeries, Kunstenfestivaldesarts presents an exhibition by Pedro Costa, a film-maker and visual artist from Portugal and a key figure of twenty-first-century cinema. In his films, Pedro Costa always goes in search of the excluded and invisible. Somewhere between fiction and documentary, his films often depict the daily lives of people on the fringes of society and immigrants from the working-class neighbourhoods of Lisbon. The film material here presented, made in Cape Verde during the shooting of his iconic film Casa de lava, is characteristic of his melancholy meditation on love and loneliness in relation to the island. These screenings will be accompanied by a filmic tribute to Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet to the writer Mallarmé. All these screenings enter into an explicitly physical relationship with the raw exhibition space of Cinéma Galeries, where they are projected directly onto the bare bricks. Parallel to the exhibition, Cinéma Galeries will present an overview of all his films. An excellent opportunity to discover the work of this idiosyncratic artist.

Confronted with the SARS-CoV-2 crisis, we had to cancel this project
