Benaji Mohamed / Benfury has built his practice between breakdance and contemporary dance. He grew up in the 1980s with breakdance in the underground scene in the Ravenstein Gallery, the cradle of hip-hop dance in Brussels. In the late 1990s he was catapulted into the contemporary dance scene and launched into a rich journey with no end. His artistic wanderings took him to Bamako in Mali. There, together with five local dancers, he created a special production inspired by TRAP music, a form of electronic music that expresses itself through groove, flavour, beat and air. Taking this music as their foundation, the dancers deconstructed breakdance techniques and combined them with longer movement sequences. The result is an exploration of five bodies that find each other more and more in the groove. Today the choreographer is bringing this creation back to Brussels and is creating a new version for KANAL’s raw spaces with this exceptional ensemble.

Confronted with the SARS-CoV-2 crisis, we had to cancel this project
