The KunstenFESTIVALdesArts was created in, for
and together with Brussels in 1994. This three weeks lasting event
takes place
at fifteen
different venues all over Brussels. Every year in May, a diverse
group of artists, no matter if they are Flemish or French-speaking,
European or coming from other continents, get together to show
the public their latest projects.
The word Arts is deliberately
used in the plural, as the programme deals with contemporary art
forms as diverse as music theatre,
theatre, dance, film, multimedia and plastic art. Moreover, the
festival unites
the different language communities that are represented in Brussels.
The result is a fascinating combination of styles, visions, languages
and cultures. More than any other event in its kind, the KunstenFESTIVALdesArts
crosses all borders.
But it is at the same time a feast of creation:
more than half of the projects that are presented here, are world
premières.
The atmosphere during the festival is an event in itself. There
is a lively festival centre with café and restaurant where
the public and the artists can meet in a cosy ambience.
In May,
Brussels and the KunstenFESTIVALdesArts are just the place
to be for artists and all those who are interested in the different
kinds of performing arts, as well as for the many foreign professionals
who have been following the festival since its creation.
